Beginner looking for advice on getting started with SharpCap

Hi everyone,

I’m quite new to using SharpCap and astrophotography in general, so I wanted to introduce myself and ask for some advice. I’ve recently started experimenting with capturing images of the Moon and planets, and I’m still trying to understand the best settings for exposure, gain, and focus.

So far, I find the software really powerful but also a bit overwhelming as a beginner. I’m especially interested in improving my image quality and learning how to use features like live stacking and histogram properly.

If anyone has beginner-friendly tips, recommended settings, or useful tutorials, I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to learning from this community!

Probably the best place for you to start is in the 'Tutorials' subforum (viewforum.php?f=35) where you will find lots of detailed guides on how to use various parts of SharpCap and image various targets. For instances, there is an incredibly useful guide on capturing and processing images of Jupiter here - viewtopic.php?t=1156

If you like video tutorials, then you can often find people who have created those and shared them on youtube - searching for 'SharpCap Jupiter' or 'SharpCap Moon' or similar on youtube will find you a range to select from.
