Greetings,

Need help, the display of captured Jupiter on my screen is not the same as the avi output and was over saturated while the image on the screen is much better.

thanks

Hi,

it might be a good idea to post a screenshot showing the problem in the AVI as that might help reveal what is going on. Without that I can only make some general suggestions.

* Try a different AVI viewing application (or see if the application you are using might be brightening the image)
* Check the 'Display Stretch' settings in SharpCap to see if this has been set up to darken the image (see https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.1/#Display%20Stretch) - this can alter the image on screen without affecting what is saved to file. It's much more usual though to find that people have brightened the onscreen image and forgotten about it, leading to a darker AVI file.
* Look at the 'capturesettings.txt' file that SharpCap saves next to the AVI - that contains all the camera settings in use when you started capturing. Those details might reveal something.

cheers,

Robin

Just a random thought, but what are you using to play the AVI? Some media players apply filters (brightness, contrast, etc.) while playing a video. Maybe your player is doing this. Check and make sure no "enhancements" are selected for playback.

Hi,

thanks for posting the screenshots and the settings files - they confirm my suspicion that you had previously (perhaps unintentionally) adjusted the display stretch function in SharpCap and the settings were adjusted so that mid brightnesses would be made darker on screen in SharpCap than they really were. This is seen by the values for 'Display Black Point', 'Display Midtone Point' and 'Display White Point' in the bottom of one of the settings files.

The thing to do is to press the 'reset' button in the display stretch area in SharpCap (it's an anticlockwise circular arrow). That puts the display stretch back to defaults, which is the best option for planetary or solar/lunar imaging. Stretching the displayed image is really most useful for deep sky imaging, particularly for seeing targets/stars when framing or focusing an image with relatively short exposures.

Hope this helps,

Robin
