Does Sharpcap support the Astromechanics lens focuser?

#1

Post by Coconuts »

I was hoping to use SharpCap this evening, but my scope is a camera lens, for which I use the compact Astromechanics USB lens focuser. It is an ASCOM device, but I can't seem to get it working in SharpCap. Do they work together? Thanks.

All the best,

Kevin

Hi,

SharpCap should work with any focusing device that has an ASCOM driver - in theory. In practice there are a few things that can crop up to cause problems. Perhaps the most likely is that you are using the 64-bit version of SharpCap, but the ASCOM driver is 32-bit only, meaning that SharpCap cannot load it directly. In this case, the best workaround is to use the ASCOM device hub (set up SharpCap to talk to the device hub focuser, and the device hub to talk to your actual focuser driver).

If that doesn't help then the best thing is to send a screenshot of any error you see and/or the SharpCap log contents which will show any error information in more detail.

cheers,

Robin
