Is the stacked image fits summary frame produced by SC the same or identical to to the image processed by Pixinsight using individual raw fits file frames?
If so, I can process the stacked image fits summary frame in Pixinsight, thereby eliminating the batch processing of individual fits frames? Also I could save a lot of disk space not having to save the original individual fits frames.
What do you say?
Use of SC summary fits vs individual fits

Re: Use of SC summary fits vs individual fits
Hi,
the stacked image will not be identical to pixinsight - there are too many subtleties in how the stacking is done (how is the alignment calculated, how is the image transformed to the correct alignment, how are hot pixels handled, etc) for them to be the same. To be honest, I would expect that with care and knowledge you could get somewhat better results by stacking in PixInsight - not by an enormous margin though (at least in the dark/flat/align/stack part of processing - PI has a lot more options for the later stages of processing).
This is essentially the trade off between convenience and simplicity (processing in SharpCap) and ultimate control (processing in PI).
cheers,
Robin
