Smart histogram issues

#1

Post by Howardk »

Hi
I am running the very latest version of sharpcap

Here’s what happened tonight…

I chose to use green channel to measure and unity gain
I click measure…

Smart histogram starts ok…goes to 1000ms exposure with gain around 30% (3191)

It puts a selection box on my image

Then it tries an exposure of 16s and goes into a continuous exposure that doesn’t end … the frame number bottom right just keeps increasing…after 5 minutes i try to cancel the smart brain but it seems frozen…in fact the whole program freezes and i have to close down and restart

Bug???

Hi,

might be a bug, or maybe the camera glitched as it went to longer exposures, at which point the smart histogram could get stuck waiting for a frame that never arrives. Can you find and send me the log file from that session so that I can investigate properly?

cheers,

Robin

I will try find the log

But i must say that when i change exposure time say from 45s to 4s the camera or sharpcap goes into a mad frantic count in frame exposure where it quickly counts up to 2 minutes integration before finally settling down to the selected 4s

Hi,

that log doesn't seem to contain any use of the smart histogram - it looks like you were capturing dark flat frames in that log.

However, what is of interest is that part way through that log, SharpCap records that a number of devices have suddenly disconnected from USB, including the camera. Is that a common thing? SharpCap does try to reconnect to a camera if it briefly disconnects from USB and then reconnects again, but that can never be 100% successful and is only really attempted on a 'let's hope it works' basis. If you are getting regular disconnect/reconnect problems then pretty much anything could potentially glitch during or after the reconnection.

cheers,

Robin

Hi,

I've seen people go through several of these active USB cables finding that each doesn't quite work right in the search for one that works. The problem is that USB (particularly high speed USB) doesn't like long cables. The best thing to do in this case is to put the PC next to the telescope and then remote control that PC from another PC that is indoors (via WIFI or a network cable).

cheers,

Robin

Howard

A forum search for 'usb3 active cable' will get you plenty of info on this.

For example https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-1 ... 61I2K?th=1
