Plate solving in altaz

Hi
Will plate solve goto’s work if i am on an altaz mount with a derotator working correctly?

Or does plate solve work only with a gem ?

Hi,

it *should* work, but it does depend on the ASCOM driver for your mount and if it implements the 'SyncToCoordinates' command which allows SharpCap to tell it to update its RA/Dec co-ordinates to the ones from the plate solving.

If it doesn't implement that command then a workaround should be to set the option to use an 'offset goto' to correct the position in the SharpCap plate solving settings page - with this approach, SharpCap can avoid the need to sync by calculating the co-ordinates that you need to put the target in view even with a pointing error.
