Player One Uranus-C USB3.0 Color Camera (IMX585)

Robin,

I am thinking of getting a new planetary camera which is the Player One Uranus-C USB3.0 Color Camera (IMX585) and I was wondering if there is any issue with using SharpCap Pro 4.1 with this camera?

I will be using an ROI of around 480x640 on Jupiter to get an SER file with 15,000-20,000 frames and in no more than 3-minutes to mitigate planetary rotation.

I have not read any issues but wanted to confirm with you directly.

Hi Edmund,

that one should work fine - I don't personally have the PlayerOne IMX585, but I do have a selection of their cameras to test with, and they all work fine in SharpCap.

For my ZWO camera, I did download ASCOM drivers which I believe SharpCap Pro employs; therefore, would you know if Player One cameras also have ASCOM drivers which SharpCap Pro would use?

Or would I even need to get any software for the Player One Cameras?

Hi Edmund,

SharpCap is best used without the ASCOM drivers for supported brands of camera (ZWO, QHY, Player One, Altair, ToupTek, etc). Using the ASCOM driver is really a fall back option either if the built in support in SharpCap has some issue or if you are using a brand that SharpCap doesn't directly support.

So, no need to install the ASCOM driver for the camera, but... You *must* install the windows system driver for the camera. For Player One, they call this the 'Camera Driver', and it's the top item in the download list on this page : https://player-one-astronomy.com/service/software/

If you miss out installing the camera driver then it's likely that the camera will not be properly initialized by Windows and nothing will be able to communicate with it until you do get that driver installed.
