Custom ROI 294mm bin1 mode

I understand that this was intentionally disabled for high resolution mode per a 2022 forum post in this subforum.

I am interested in using this camera with an MLAstro SHG-700 for solar imaging and it would be nice to have custom ROI enabled in HR mode as you need 8000x180 pixel ROIs. I have been able to get it to work with Firecap and AsiCap but prefer to use sharpcap.

Alternatively, is there a way to add an additional selection to the list of ROIs? I tried to edit the settinga file but that didn’t work.

Hi,

it might be possible to get this to work with a spot of registry editing - or without registry editing if you have a camera with a resolution higher than the custom one you are aiming for. The trick is to get the resolution you want onto the list of custom resolutions that SharpCap has stored. I keep meaning to make it so that this list is stored on a per-camera basis, but at the moment, it's a global list. If we can get the 8000x180 resolution onto that list then I think it ought to show up in the dropdown for your camera when in the bin1 mode - and it *should* work.

So, if you have another camera with a resolution bigger than 8000x180, open that camera and select a custom ROI of 8000x180, close the camera, close SharpCap and then try with the 294MM.

If you don't have an alternative camera, you will need to use the Microsoft regedit tool to edit SharpCap's settings in the registry. Run regedit and find your way to the registry key

Inside this key, you should find a setting 'Custom Resolutions', which has a list of all the custom resolutions you have added on any camera - something like

Double click on the 'CustomResolutions' key to edit the value and add at the end an extra ';8000x180', so that the whole thing becomes something like

Press OK to save the new value, then try running SharpCap and see if it works. As always, take care when editing the registry as making other changes could break things (up to the level of your computer not booting any more if you do enough damage in there...)

glad it worked - as I mentioned elsewhere I'm hoping to avoid custom resolutions for that camera as dealing with the two different modes makes the code quite complicated enough already (and I don't have that camera to test and check my work with!)
