Use of SVBONY SV605CC

Hi,

I wonder if they are listing packaged weight? I have just checked my 605CC and the weight of the camera alone is 498g.

So weird - everything I am reading says 1.4Kg to 1.6Kg so not sure why yours is so much less? I like your weight so not sure if maybe the new ones changed?

On the SVBONY website, the ‘package’ includes various adapters, hence the weight discrepancy.

I doubt anyone is going to answer that question. I have some advice for you at the bottom of the post.

However, below is a comparison of the 2 cameras. The price difference can be accounted for by the name/reputation and the fact that one has an integrated hub. Pay particular attention to the telescopes used.

In a couple of posts, you have mentioned M31 and mosaics. I ran the IMX533 specs and Nexstar 8SE through the Telescopius mosaic planner: [ focal length=2032mm, aperture=200mm, 3.75µm, sensor 15.4x16.3]. The app does give the co-ordinates of the centres of the panels. At 36 panels, how many years have you got?

Having been involved with astro imaging for 8 years (with a 3 year break for health reasons) my conclusion is the hobby is a money pit. I have had some successes - a couple of Astrobin Top Picks (lunar) and an image (lunar) published in Sky at Night magazine. All my gear is second hand which means I was only wasting money at 50% of new cost. I started off with a Nexstar 6SE and Neximage solar system imager. I very quickly realised that combination was not going to give me what I wanted. Next came a Celestron CG5 equatorial mount and C8 SCT scope. To go after deep sky objects I purchased a 66mm refractor. This works well for the big deep sky objects when used with a 0.8 reducer and IMX183 sensor viewtopic.php?t=2322. I also have an 81mm refractor. Later came a Celestron AVX mount which I had refurbished/tuned at less total cost than that of a new AVX (that kit gets me 1200s guided exposures).

This viewtopic.php?t=8917 was achieved with a mount, telescope and camera that are each 10 years old.

Given my experience I would urge you to consider a second hand camera (say from AstroBuySell) and gain some experience. Then in the future you will be able to make informed choices as to the kit that suits your particular interests.

Hi Edmund,

I've been using the SV605CC for about 2 years now.
I don't own the ASI533MC Pro, so unfortunately I can't do a direct comparison—(Note)this is just my personal take.

◆No issues at all with SharpCap compatibility.
◆Cooling works fine.
◆Judging from images captured by others under similar conditions, (I think) the image quality holds up really well.
◆The only real difference in specs is whether it has a USB hub or not (which, at least for me, wasn’t a necessary feature).
➡ If you're planning to use ASIAir in the future, you'll need to go with the ASI533MC Pro.
　But if you're sticking with SharpCap or NINA, I think the SV605CC is a super cost-effective option.

2 years ago, I was a complete beginner. I wanted something reasonably priced with good specs, and I used Stellarium to figure out a setup that matched the targets I wanted to shoot (Object size, OTA focal length, and Camera sensor size). That led me to the SV605CC.
I bought it as a “for now” solution, thinking I’d upgrade once I got more experience and knew what I really needed.
But honestly, the SV605CC has been more than enough, so I’ve just kept using it.

With your fl-2000mm scope, you’ll probably be aiming for planets or smaller galaxies. But if you pair this square 1-inch sensor camera with something like fl-500mm or 250mm scope, you’ll get a really nice FOV for a wide range of DSO.

I measured the camera itself and it came out to 469g. If you attach the included 11mm T2 adapter, it bumps up to 487g.
Depending on your setup, things like extension tubes or a filter wheel would add more weight.

The warranty is one year. I haven’t had to deal with repairs or replacements myself, so I can’t say how that process goes—but their support replies pretty fast. Back when I was just starting out and had no clue what I was doing, I contacted them a few times and never had issues with slow responses. I think they probably have regional support teams, and at least here in Japan, the response time has been totally fine.

They’re also pretty helpful with non-hardware issues (like “why isn’t this image turning out right?”),
but for those kinds of questions, I found forums like this one or Cloudy Nights to be more useful.
They’re great when it comes to product-specific stuff, but for imaging techniques and troubleshooting,
wisdom of seasoned die-hard astronomy fans is way more powerful.

“ Please ignore the last email.
It is 475.9g.
The weight of products from different batches may fluctuate slightly, which is normal”

After much research and reviewing quality, I finally settled on the ZWO ASI533MC Pro rather than the SVBony SV605CC.

I look forward to imaging M81, M31, and Saturn this fall.
