Crashes (part 2)

#1

Post by roelb »

Hello Robin.
I experienced new crashes.
It seems that they are related with the new Background Subtraction tool.
When I turn it off, I had no more crashes.
The program stops and disappears without any error message.
I attached some log files.

Hi Roel,

all of those logs just cut off without any errors or warnings, which ties in with a crash that is bypassing the main error handling code and bringing the application down instantly.

The best way to troubleshoot this sort of problem is to use the 'procdump' tool from Microsoft to create a crash dump file when SharpCap crashes. That crash dump file should contain enough info to let me work out what is going on. There are some instructions on how to use Procdump with SharpCap in this post : viewtopic.php?p=23884#p23884

cheers,

Robin

I had a crash for the first time in a long time the last time out when using Background Subtraction. The log will be the same as Roel's since SC just disappeared without warning. Hopefully you will find the bug since I'm not very good at things like installing and using procdump.

I'm running a Win11 laptop with the latest SC drop as of 7/10/25. I was running a 533MM when this happened. The moment I checked Background Subtraction is when SC disappeared. I can provide a log file if you need it.

Hi,

thanks for the confirmation that it looks to be background subtraction related. I am not seeing any problems here with sample images and the various background subtraction modes, but that probably just means that there is some other condition that needs to be satisfied for things to break and we haven't worked that out yet. Unless I can get it to break myself then I will probably need a crash dump file from someone to help pin down the cause - there is nothing obvious to try at the moment.

cheers,

Robin

I'll try the "procdump" tool.
