Hi,

please send the SharpCap log from an affected session so that I can try to track down the problem. Sometimes you can get the 'disk full' message show up for other failures to save, but usually the log will reveal the full details.

cheers,

Robin, unfortunately my sharpcap 4.1 don't write any logs by default. I've open Log setting - all checkbox are not checked.
May be some of they should be checked? But the caution before the boxes strictly restrict me from any steps without "tech support directives"...
Anton

PS. What I could observe for the years of these saving bags - every time, when I've got the message "can't save... disk is full" - I've got it only on 32bit button. If I, after receiving this message, try to save 16bit - sharpcap does it without any problem. But every attempt to save it once more in 32bit mode after successful 16bit saving always ended the same failure.

Hi,

the options you are looking at are only for 'extra detailed' logging - SharpCap always creates basic logfiles and will save them for 30 days. Run SharpCap, select 'Help', then 'Show Log', then press the 'Locate on Disk' button - that will bring up the folder where the log files are stored, and you can try to find the file that relates to the session in which the problem happened. The name of the log file indicates the date/time that it was created (ie when you launched SharpCap on that particular session), the 'Date Modified' of the log file will show roughly when you closed SharpCap. Large files will usually be associated with a longer session. The log may well be bigger than the 1Mb size limit for uploading files here, but they usually compress into a much smaller zippped version.

Hope this helps,

Yes, Robin. I've found the log-file with a "disk is full" messages. Here is it.

Hi Anton,

thanks - that is exactly what I needed.

In this case the 'disk full' message is incorrect - it gets shown (deliberately saying 'this usually means that the disk is full' rather than 'always means') in the case of any serious error saving a file.

In this case though, it's an out of memory error trying to prepare the data to save to file - that's visible in the log a few lines above the 'disk full' message.

Although you have lots of memory available on your system, you are running the 32 bit version of SharpCap, which limits how much SharpCap can access at once, and in particular can cause problems when trying to get large single blocks of memory for things like saving to FITS in 32 bit. You should be fine if you switch to using the 64 bit version of SharpCap instead. Actually, some time in the next year or so I expect I will stop making a 32 bit version as the reasons for having one (people using older 32 bit windows, etc) are slowly going away.

cheers,

Hi Robin,
Two words for your information.
During those few night since I've switched to the 64 bit version of SharpCap, I've have not seen even one a "disk is full" message. I'm very happy, thank you!

Hi Anton,

glad to hear that switching to 64 bit worked for you. I am thinking that I will stop making the 32-bit versions in the near future, as I expect that the number of people who really need to use them is very small now, and for people with 64 bit Windows, they tend to be the cause of problems like the ones you were seeing.

thanks,

Robin
