Re: Version 4.1 plate solving issues
There was a brief clear spell tonight so tested the plate solve again.
Remember I said that I tried to copy the settings from 4.0 to 4.1 using export and import? well I found that all of the settings had been wiped in 4.1 so I had to set up the mount, focuser and filter wheel again.
I then tried to do a plate solve in 4.1 and it worked first time! I then closed 4.1 and opened 4.0 and it also plate solved first time.
I have taken snapshots of both 4.0 and 4.1 images.
I moved the scope off target and tested the plate solve in 4.1 several times and it worked every time. Given how bright the sky was (22:15) it did well I thought.
Just to clarify when I did the export import the plate solve screen defaulted to sharpcap plate solve engine so I manually inputted the setting for the plate solve as per 4.0 but it was not until I fired up the mount etc did I realise it did not have the mount/filter wheel focuser etc missing.

Re: Version 4.1 plate solving issues
Hi Trev,
well, glad to hear that the plate solve is working now, but a bit of a mystery about the settings...
What's supposed to happen is that the settings from 4.0 should automatically be brought over to 4.1 the first time you run 4.1 - after that the 4.1 and 4.0 settings are separate (apart from license key) - this helps make sure that any new settings or changes in 4.1 cannot affect 4.0. So, normally you shouldn't need to export/import, but then it shouldn't do any harm either...
cheers,
Robin

Re: Version 4.1 plate solving issues
Last night was confirmation that 4.1 now plate solves and sync's with 8 second exposures.
From what I know when I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1 the plate solve settings were Sharpcaps own solve engine and it did not copy the settings from 4.0.
I did download the files for Sharpcaps engine.
The hardware settings for mount etc did successfully copy across
I then manually changed the 4.1 plate solve settings to match those in 4.0
I then used export from 4.0 and import into 4.1. This set the plate solve settings in 4.1 back to sharpcaps own solver. I manually set the 4.1 plate solve settings to match 4.0. When I had clear sky I looked under tools and saw that plate solve was available but plate solve and sync was greyed out. I clicked on plate solve and it plate solved ok.
I then wanted to move the scope a bit to do a second test but when I scrolled up the right hand control sidebar there was no mount, focuser of filter wheel listed (hence why plate solve and sync was greyed out) so I manually set up the mount and other equipment in Hardware.
My gut feel is that the problem lay with when I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1. and something went wrong with this process. Its quite likely I did the upgrade direct from the website and not when 4.0 advised that an upgrade was available. I do software housekeeping during daylight so as not to impact on precious imaging time.
Best regards
Trev

Re: Version 4.1 plate solving issues
Just thinking about this I wonder if when 4.1 was downloaded it did not find the 4.0 settings so created its own default settings list.
So perhaps I imported 4.1's default settings list and not the 4.0 exported settings list which is why I got stuck in a loop of importing the default 4.1 settings list which kept repeating the issue?
I use C du Ceil to locate and move the scope to the object and then go into Sharpcap to do the plate solve and sync.
Just a thought

Re: Version 4.1 plate solving issues
Hi Trev,
it shouldn't matter how you did the upgrade - the settings copy happens the first time you run SharpCap 4.1, not as part of the upgrade install. I thought that it was pretty much 'bomb proof', but difficult to be sure 100%. If you could find the first SharpCap log from running 4.1 for the very first time on your PC then it would have in it a few entries about upgrading settings and (if there was a problem) then that would show up in the log. SharpCap does do housekeeping of log files though to stop them from building up too much, so it could have been cleaned up by now. I suspect we will never know...
