New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
Re: New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
I've been testing the latest version of SharpCap, v4.1.11351.0, with my Player One Uranus-C camera and found that the software crashed a few seconds after connecting to the camera. The error messages suggest that it was having problems maintaining the USB connection. I was doing some power consumption measurements but this was not the cause (it still happened when the current monitoring was removed). I reverted SharpCap to the previous version, v4.1.11294.0, and the camera worked fine.
Robin, the software should have sent you a few error logs, at around 5:30pm this evening.

Hello, folks,
I'm able to planetary stack when capturing SER files in RAW8 format, but not when I'm capturing using RAW16.
Is this expected behavior?

The planetary stacking feature currently only operates in 8-bit mode. Robin is looking into 16-bit mode.

Thanks, Peter!
Re: New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
Robin, really cool feature you gave us!!! Any chance you can get this to run on saved AVI files too vs only SER?
P.S. This tool would be amazing if it could do derotation

Bill

Same here - downloaded, installed. Using on a recorded SER as a test camera source. It plays, but no stacking is seen. It just shows the live stream, no stacking and no wavelets - even though all controls seem to work. Excited to test out this new feature ASAP...PeterC65 wrote: Mon Nov 20, 2023 6:45 pmI've tried moving the sharpening controls and they have no effect on what I see. I set them over to the right which should completely mess up the image but nothing happened. It looks like I'm just seeing the original SER file but with disc stabilisation. I'm downloading the sample file that Borodog posted but that will take a while with my broadband!admin wrote: Mon Nov 20, 2023 6:34 pm Did you turn up some of the levels in the wavelet sharpening section? They start at default (no sharpening).
Oh, and of course, control for the timelapse period is useful. I usually record a frame every 60 seconds on Jupiter, for example, and play it back at 15fps.
Re: New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
Thanks I did not know 16 wasn't supported.

Re: New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
Hi folks,
I have a lot of things that are mentioned here on the radar, including
* Writing timelapses to AVI as well as SER (probably PNG stills too)
* Varying the timelapse interval
* More options on filtering
* Fixing 16 bit videos so that they work properly
* Colour channel alignment
* Quality graph
and more. These improvements will come over the next 2 or 3 weeks as I get time to implement them.
I've also looked at Peter's error logs - the camera is disconnecting from USB repeatedly and then reconnecting again very soon after. SharpCap has code that will try to handle this sort of problem without interrupting your imaging, but in this case an error is occurring in the request for the sensor temperature at a time when it is disconnected.
I will try to fix that, but you still need to work out why the underlying problem of disconnect/reconnect is happening (the SharpCap reconnection support is designed around trying to deal with this problem happening rarely and to be able to recover most of the time - not to be a bombproof way to work with a camera that is misbehaving). Interestingly there is no change to the PlayerOne code between 11294 and 11351.
cheers,
Robin

Re: New Feature : Planetary Live Stacking
Hi,
two possible causes for this that I know of so far
* Capturing in RAW16 or MONO16 - not supported yet, please use RAW8 or MONO8 for this tool at the moment
* There is possibly another bug causing this that one person has seen where the image seems to freeze even when planetary stacking is closed - this may be graphics card driver related - still unsure.
cheers,
Robin
