Not Standard Camera Support!

Post by rahni »

Hello Dear Admin. I am a camera designer. I have designed special software for my cameras. Recently, some customers have expressed their desire to use the SharpCap software to me. Please guide me to connect to this software. Thanks

Hi,

if you want to do the coding yourself, then you have a choice :

1) For high speed imaging, implement a DirectShow driver for your camera. This is limited to 8 bit imaging data and there are a limited array of controls that you can make available to SharpCap via the IAmCameraControl and IAmVideoProcAmp. There are some DirectShow coding samples here - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... ow-samples - but I don't know of a sample that shows how to develop a camera driver. Note also that annoyingly, exposure can only be changed in whole stops (ie 0.5s, 0.25s, 0.125s).

2) For longer exposure (slower frame rate) imaging, you can write an ASCOM driver for your camera (https://www.ascom-standards.org/Develop ... erImpl.htm). Implement the ICameraV3 interface in your driver (https://ascom-standards.org/Help/Develo ... meraV3.htm).

In both of these cases, once you have developed the driver and registered it correctly, SharpCap will detect it and allow you to use the camera via the driver.

If you wish me to add direct support for your cameras into SharpCap then please send me a private message here on the forums to give me more details of your proposition. At a minimum I would need to understand how many cameras you would expect you would expect to use with SharpCap. You would also need to provide me with an SDK to allow me to talk to your cameras and sample cameras to allow me to develop and test the code.

thanks,

Robin
