Was trying to goto HIP 90996…a double star in herc

But it’s not listed in any designation on the goto catalogue

Can this be updated?

SharpCap only contains a subset of the 118,000 stars in the Hipparchos catalog - from memory there are about the brightest 20,000 included, so only one sixth of the full catalog.

This is quite deliberate - to have a moderately sized catalog that will load quickly but have the majority of common targets in it (similarly there are 13000 deep sky objects, 1000 variable stars, 2000 asteroids, etc).

For those who want a more detailed catalog, then SharpCap allows custom catalog files to be prepared and used - the documentation is here : https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.1/#Custom ... %20Objects . There are also some places online (for instance on the cloudy nights forum) where people have shared custom sharpcap catalogs that they have created.
