Automatic plate resolution from SharpCap.

#1

Post by pastorgalactico »

Hello;

I'd like to know if it's possible to automatically perform license plate resolution using SharpCap.
Currently, I use SharpCap's license plate resolution feature, but I have to manually click the button to perform the resolution and center the object within the camera's field of view.
I'd like SharpCap to do this automatically when I perform a goo command, reach the location, and perform the license plate resolution, automatically centering it within the camera's field of view.
Can SharpCap do this?
If not, what program can perform this automatically?

Regards.

Hello J.

yes, you can do this with SharpCap.

In the "File - SharpCap Settings - Plate Solving" ... you can select what SharpCap does after a Plate Solve.
You can select "Offset the mount to center the target...", "Sync mount and re-center ...", "Sync mount only" and "Do nothing".
Depending on your mount ... sometimes it is a bad idea to do a sync after the plate solve in the case you have a special pointing model.

In the "Goto Catalog Target/Co-ordinates" tool ... you can check the box "Refine position using plate-solve and resync/re-goto".
It will perform automatically a plate solve and re-center the target.

Alternative, you can write a script that performs the same actions.

Okay,
But can what you're describing be done with the free version of SharpCap or with SharpCap Pro?
Thanks and regards.

Hello,

The scripting is a PRO feature.

For the "Goto Catalog Target/Co-ordinates" tool ... I think it is not a PRO feature ... so it can be used with the free version of SharpCap.
You can check more easily as I ... I have the PRO and so all the features available.

Hello;

How would I configure this part to automatically resolve film plates using SharpCap?
I've attached screenshots.
Currently, I resolve film plates by clicking the plate resolution button located next to the telescope's crosshair controls.

Regards.

Hello,

First you need to select a Plate Solve ... I recommend SharpSolve it is integrated in SharpCap.
Depending on your field of view ... you can download 2 additional index files.

For the selection ... you have different options.
With or without the synchronisation of the mount and with or without new movement of the mount to the target.

Depending on your mount ... some driver have a pointing model and sometimes it is not good to perform a synchronisation.

You do not see the "Plate Solve" button near the mount direction buttons while you have not selected a Plate Solve.

Hello;
I use astap for plate resolution.
I use SharpCap for plate resolution and I use an altazimuth mount controlled by the PicGoto ESP32GO. It works by pressing the button located on the lower left side of the crosshairs.
Is it possible to perform plate resolution automatically without pressing that button using the regular SharpCap free?
If so, how do I configure SharpCap?
Regards.

Hello,

What do you mean with "automatically without pressing that button" ?

The Plate Solve from the "Tools -Plate Solve only" ... need that you click on it.

Otherwise ... if the "Tools - Goto Catalog Target/Co-ordinates" in a free SharpCap feature,
then you can click on the "Refine position using Plate Solve and resync/re-goto".
After the Goto to the target or user co-ordinates, SharpCap performs a Plate Solve and re-center the target.

Hello;

I mean, I want SharpCap to do it automatically.
I'm currently using a GoTo command from the planetarium (Guide 9.1). It reaches the location where the selected object should be, and if it's not in the center of the image, I have to press the button for SharpCap to perform the plate solution.

What I want is for the plate solution to be performed automatically.

That is, I perform the GoTo command, and when it reaches the location, it takes an image, and if it's not centered, it will perform the plate solution to center the object. I want it to do this automatically without pressing the button for perfect GoTo commands.

That's what I mean.

Can you tell me how and where I need to configure SharpCap to achieve this?
Thanks and regards.

Hello,

OK ... I guess it is not possible.
The Goto command comes from an external software (for you Guide) ... The software send a "Goto" to the mount ... not to SharpCap.

If you have the SharpCap Pro version ... it could be possible to write a script that look periodically at the mount position and in case that the telescope is moved, then perform a Plate Solve a re-center the target.

Jean-Francois
