Switching between two cameras and setting the ROI

Hello,

In the future, I would like to take pictures of planets using a color camera and a monochrome camera, both of which have the same sensor size. (ZWO ASI 585 MC & ASI 585 MM)

I am now wondering how I can best do this with the ROI setting when switching back and forth between the two cameras. Ideally, I would like to have the same ROI in the same position on both cameras.

Is there any way I can save this? So that I can set the ROI with the first camera and then quickly load the set ROI when I plug in the second camera?

Do you have any tips on how to do this reliably and quickly?

Thanks!

Hi,

the best bet is to do this via the SharpCap 'Capture Profiles' feature - this lets you save a full set of camera settings (including ROI) and then later reload it. Although it is really designed for use on the same camera, it will allow you to try to load the settings from anther camera. In the case of the 585MM and MC, most things will load correctly apart from the colour space setup - I suspect this will give a warning if you go from colour to mono (as there is no RAW option on the mono camera) and it will select mono if you go the other way around, but that is quick to switch back to colour.

Not really a perfect solution, but probably the best there is in the software right now (unless you want to start playing around with the python scripting, which could be set up to have a couple of toolbar buttons to save/restore the ROI, but would need coding experience).

cheers,

Robin

Hello Robin,

Thanks for your help. I'll try that with the “Capture Profiles.”

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with Python scripting. But maybe it could be a feature for the future that would benefit everyone who alternates between recording with multiple cameras. I imagine that implementation should not be too complicated. But maybe I'm wrong. :-)
