Sensor Analysis binning hangs SharpCap

SharpCap Pro Version 4.1.13800, 64 bit
Camera: QHY461M
Cover Calibrator: GIOTTO
OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100

SharpCap hangs when trying to do bin measurements even if "Skip Binning Measurements" has been check marked. The screen capture of the log file is attached (Sorry, I couldn't send you the actual log text since the log widget is also hung and the log gets written over when SharpCap is restarted.)

Hi,

I think seeing the whole log is going to be critical to understanding this problem. Fortunately SharpCap writes the log info to files on disk as well as having it for diplay, and those files are kept for about 30 days. If you run SharpCap again and show the log, press the 'Locate on Disk' button below the log and that will pop up the folder with the log files in. It will likely select the file for this new run of SharpCap, but the files for the older ones will be there too (check the date stamps on them to find the right one - if you ran an analysis then the file will be relatively large, at least a 100kb or more). Hopefully with the log content I can track down what is going on, since in the code I can see that if you have ticked 'Skip Binning' then it shouldn't do *anything* related to the binning measurement at all...

cheers,

Robin

I believe the attached log file is the one you are asking for.

Thanks

Hi,

yes, that's the right log - thanks for digging it out.

I have just had a look and found a logic error with the way that the 'SkipBinning' checkmark was *supposed* to be automatically ticked for you in certain cases where the camera could directly report the info that the binning measurement tries to work out. Unfortunately that was also unticking the box in certain circumstances (depending on camera), making the binning measurement run when you didn't want it. I have a fix for that which will be in the next update.

The reason it freezes is more difficult to work out - from the log it just looks like the user interface hasn't frozen completely, but updates are not keeping up with the rate of things that need to be shown - it's probably the frames from the camera being frequently updated, but it's hard to be sure. It might help to use a smaller ROI or to zoom the view out further. I will try to add some more diagnostics so that if this happens again the log will contain more info to see what was being slow.

cheers,

Robin

Thanks, Robin.

Since I am new to this Forum, will I be notified that a new update is available or do I need to manually look for updates?

Best Regards,
Mark
