Sharpcap closes when clicking on "Start Lunar/Solar/..."

#1

Post by kite55surfer »

I am on version 4.1.13758.0 Pro (paid) on windows 11 arm (parallels mac mini m4)
Every time I click "Start solar/lunar/planetary live stacking" the program closes, no crashing notice.

Thanks for your help,
Emilio

Hi Emilio,

did you ever try it on previous versions and if so, did it work? If we could find a change in behaviour (like it works on version A, but then broke on the next version B) it would help pin down what the cause might be.

I also have a mini-PC that runs Windows with an Arm processor, so I will test on that in the next day or so to see if I see the crash too - if it is a pure 'Windows on Arm' problem then it may break for me and I will then have a good chance of being able to work out why.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,

No. First time ever I tried that.
Discovered that feature by watching someone on YouTube.

Thanks,

I have tried again, same results.

But I noticed that when I start Sharpcap again, instead of the black section at the beginning that tells you a few things like go to quick capture ,,, (can't remember exactly) it automatically starts in "Live view" At bottom says: "select a camera to get started"

I unchecked the "remember camera..."

Also uninstalled and reinstalled Sharpcap.

Am I doing something wrong? Tried with 2 cameras same result.

Please help

OK I RTFM and found the difference between "Live view" and "Still", now black notice appears.

I then tried without any of my cameras connected (windows arm drivers not used), using the sample cameras and the program again closes when clicking on " Start Lunar/...."

Tried attaching a short video, but size too big.

Thanks again,
Emilio

Took a quick screenshot. This shows up for split second just prior to closing Sharpcap

Hi,

I just found the cause of the crash when you choose the planetary stacking tool on Windows-on-Arm... I had optimized a particular image processing function that is used by that tool and mistakenly included an instruction for modern processors in a code path that is run on older x86 processors (or when using the emulation on windows-on-arm). The older processor, or the emulation will not support that instruction and that causes the crash.

Fortunately the fix is easy - that will be in the next update.

I have also been seeing anomalies with the toolbar when running in Windows11-on-arm - sometimes the buttons to the left of 'Live Stack' vanish when you open the camera. In your screenshot it all looks fine, but keep an eye out to see if you spot that issue at any time.

cheers,

Robin

Good. I was looking today into getting an 2018 Intel mini to avoid windows arm.

I am also having issues with zwo and Players one cameras and their drivers for windows arm. I have them working but have to keep an eye of not rebooting.

Can't wait for your next update. Saturn is looking at me.

Thanks,
Emilio

Hi Emilio,

if you get clear skies before next Monday, try going back to 4.1.13724 - that should avoid the problem you are seeing, since it was before the performance related change that introduced the problem.

thanks,

Thanks a lot!

Is there a specific video or written manual how to best use this feature on say Saturn?

Thanks again,
Emilio
