Hi everyone, I've been a happy Sharpcap Pro user for many years with my 20" Dobson+StellarCat+Argonavis+Sharpcap, which I use to control plate solving, tracking, autoguiding ecc..
I might be able to buy a new onstep motorized Dobson. Will I get the same exact features with the new Sharpcap+onstep? Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Re: Dobson+onstep Dobson+StellarCat
Hi,
no direct info on this, but it would all depend on the ASCOM driver for the new GOTO system and what functionality it provides. Things to look out for include:
* Reporting current pointing in RA/Dec (fairly basic stuff)
* SlewTo operations for GOTO (also standard stuff)
* Sync operations to allow plate solving to correct co-ordinates
* MoveAxis (used for some feature tracking and target centering tools)
* Setting tracking rates between lunar/solar/sidereal
* Pulse guiding (used for dithering in live stack if you just want to dither without actually guiding)
Unfortunately checking this sort of thing is difficult without having both the ASCOM driver *and* the hardware it talks to on hand - the same driver might work with different versions of the hardware but have different capabilities depending on which hardware it is talking to.
While looking around for any info on this, I noticed that there is an 'onstep' group on 'groups.io' - https://onstep.groups.io/g/main - it may be worth asking there if there is anyone with your hardware who uses SharpCap successfully.
cheers,
Robin
