Indication of oversaturation

Is it possible to indicate oversaturated stars as in raw well as in stacked images? Hystogram is good thing, but what to do with local pixels which is important to further photometry? Some kind of indication will be useful...

Hello,

You can use the FX function "Highlight Over Exposed".
It will show the overexposed pixels.
It is only a black region over the overexposed pixels (Ideally it would be in red or other colour).

You can use the FX function with the live (raw) images.
But not with the Live Stack image (may be in the future ... Robin ?)

Jean-Francois

A lot of thanks, FX indication works fine with Test Camera 1 image.
I tried to use FX with my stacked images (via Folder Monitor Camera), but regretfully I see just blank black surface. Images are normal, I opened them with another programs.

Hi,

the highlight over exposed function shows the highlight in every second frame, so that it seems to flash on/off when you are using a camera in video mode. That's not going to show so well for the folder monitor camera where you get one frame at a time. If you have multiple frames in the folder and press the 'play' button then it will work, giving a flashing between dark and light for the overexposed areas (going to red in RAW mode).

cheers,

Robin

Thank you, Robin, for the explanation!
It seems, Folder Monitor does not like stacked images :( There are enough of them in the folder, but screen is dark...

Hi,

is everything in the folder of the same resolution/bit depth/file type? The camera will look at the files of the selected type (ie *.fits) in the folder, then choose the oldest as the 'reference' file. Any other files that do not match that one in terms of resolution/colour planes/bit depth is ignored. You will usually see an indication of how many frames it has selected with the play/pause/stop controls on the right.

Other possibilities worth checking are

* Do the files need a display stretch applied to show anything?
* Are the saved files 32 bit FITS? Re-loading those is only partially supported.

cheers,

Robin
