Folder Cam: Could not read image file

#1

Post by StarFlea »

Hello Robin,

During today's solar eclipse, I managed to capture some AVI sequences (approx. 100 GB) with SharpCap through thick clouds.

I then wanted to open them again in Folder Camera to try postprocessing, but it didn't work: I kept getting the message "Could not read image file."

What could be causing this?

Greetings!

Hi,

the folder cam will only read still image files (FITS, TIFF, PNG, etc). Since you have an AVI video, your only choice to reload it into SharpCap is to select it as the image source in the 'Test Camera 2 (High Speed)' - that will make SharpCap play back the video as if it was coming from a camera at 20fps.You can boost the frame rate if you want by increasing gain and reducing exposure to compensate (ie double gain, halve exposure will get you the same images at 40fps).

cheers,

Robin

Ah, good to know. That actually worked,
albeit with some functional limitations, e.g., the ability to switch frame by frame like with the Folder Cam.

Perhaps there will be a way to load a single AVI file into the Folder Cam in the future...?

Thanks for the quick help!
