I tried to download the latest version and the download failed. I did not receive a downloaded file and my computer locked up...

This is not critical for me as I did not need the upgraded topics

if it was the auto-update in SharpCap that you had trouble with, then please just try downloading the latest version from https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/downloads - while the auto update works well for 99% of people, there are cases where it misbehaves and it's usually easiest to just download manually.

I'm afraid I can't say anything about the computer hanging - that should usually be impossible for an application to do, although it is possible for the computer to get so bogged down that it appears to be stuck for a long time.
