Player One Uranus-M not working with native drivers

I had problems with this camera only working with ASCOM drivers (badly!) when I installed it yesterday. Sharpcap 4.1.13 could not see the native drivers. I found a fix based on a reply elsewhere on the forum about a different camera but I thought I would post this for the benefit of anyone else struggling specifically with this new camera.

At the time of writing the Sharpcap version 4.13190.0 from 11th March 2025 of the PlayerOneCamera.dll doesn't work with the newly-released Uranus-M. The fix is simply to download the SDK from the PlayerOne website at https://player-one-astronomy.com/service/software/, unzip it and copy just the file PlayerOneCamera.dll from the relevant 64-bit or 32-bit folder over the one installed by Sharpcap on your PC. On my Windows 11 box this is at C:\Program Files\SharpCap 4.1 (64 bit)\PlayerOneCamera.dll

No doubt the next release of Sharpcap will include the newest Player One SDK but for now this should work.

Hi,

thanks for sharing and the 'heads up' on the SDK needing an update - I will make sure the new version gets into the next SharpCap update.

cheers,

Robin

Hello,
I'm trying to do darks but none of my playerone cameras Uranus, Ares can reach -10 as a matter of fact I put in -10 and it reverts to -9 any chance this is an issue on sharpcap or playerone?

They do reach up to -20 thru SkyX

Thank you for your help
Joe

Hi Joe,

I'm guessing that you have your temperatures set to show in Farenheit not Celsius? The thing that happens here is that there are rounding errors in the conversion back and forward between the Farenheit temperature shown in the display and the Celsius temperature which is what the camera is really set to.

You set -10, that gets converted to -23.3C, which gets rounded to -23C and sent to the camera. SharpCap always reads back the value, so it gets -23C, converts that to -9.4F, which gets rounded to -9 on the display.

The likelihood is that other applications are also doing the same conversion of -10F to -23C, but if they aren't reading back the value again then they will continue to display -10.

Anyway, you will probably find that the actual temperature settles to about -9.4F in any application, since internally the camera will be targetting -23C which is -9.4F. If you want to go colder than -10F, you can, just by selecting -11, -12, etc.

cheers,

Robin

Hello Robin,
Thank you for your detailed explanation but I'm not sure where to change from Fahrenheit to Celsius on the cameras I have always used what ever default was on all my cameras Player0ne,ZWO,QHY,etc...
I've been doing this for almost 11 years and I always thought cameras ran on Celsius can you please explain will sharpcap recognize the darks when I'm shooting 60sec. , 300sec. or 600sec and apply the darks.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

glad that you have the temperature target sorted now. On the subject of darks, SharpCap doesn't automatically pick a dark to match the current light frame settings, but if you have captured darks using SharpCap's tools and opted to save them to the SharpCap 'Dark Library' then when you press the 'Browse...' button to choose a dark frame, it will try to put you straight into the folder that matches your current camera settings (exposure, gain, etc).

cheers,

Robin
