Zwo Eaf settings

#1

Post by SkyluxMax »

Hi Robin. Hope you’re keeping well?
I hope you can advise me? I have an EAF I recently bought for my EdgeHD 8 and I am trying to work out the settings. Firstly I know that the focus has to finish on the Counterclockwise position (Negative rotation on my scope) so in the settings do I set the overshoot in Negative position by say 300 steps and start a scan in the negative or positive direction. I know the backlash is about 60steps. Sorry to ask basic questions but never used an auto focuser so help is needed.
Also trying to work out the option in the step settings in contrast focus tool.
Is there a starting point as a rough guide?
Much appreciated, Jon.

Hi Jon,

unfortunately these settings will be very different from one setup to the next. If you found someone else with an EdgeHD who has the same motor focus as you then you could probably copy theirs, but the settings for different scopes/focusers may be wildly different. As an example, I have one setup where the backlash is over 1000 steps...

It sounds as though you have the right idea with the negative movement overshoot and negative scan directions to arrive from the right direction. For the contrast focus tool, 11 steps is often a good number, and you need to pick the step size so that the whole movement (11 times step size) is enough to go from noticeably out of focus on one side of best focus, through best focus and on to noticeably out of focus the other side.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,

Thank you for getting back to me. At least I know I'm almost there with my setup, now I just have to figure out the setting according to my setup.
