When switching to Live View, the camera in PHD2 goes white

Hi All, I am using an Orion Starshoot mini for guiding in PHD2, and when I enter live view in SharpCap the phd2 video goes white. When I stop live view in SharpCap the video comes back on. Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks, Mark

Hi,

two things I can think of here...

One is the possibility that you are trying to use the same camera in both PHD2 and SharpCap - that's not something that will work properly, and even if you get as far as opening the camera in both applications, the results from that point on will be pretty random.

The other is going to be down to USB data flow - when SharpCap switches the main camera into live view, a lot of USB data will be continuously flowing back to the PC. If you are using a hub to connect both main and guiding camera back to a single USB port, or in some cases using two adjacent USB ports that share an internal hub, that can cause issues. Ideally bring both cameras back to the PC via separate cables to separate ports. Other things you can try are reducing the 'Turbo USB' or 'USB Speed' control value in SharpCap (if the main camera is QHY, *increase* USB traffic instead) - those changes will make the main camera use less USB bandwidth which could help.

cheers,

Robin
