Jupiter and Europa, Oct. 3, 2024

I captured Jupiter and Europa using an ASA 500mm f/15.6 OTA at a focal length of 7800mm. Europa is visible to the South of the Great Red Spot. This image is a composite of 13 frames selected from a series of 51 one-minute exposures taken between 7:52 UT and 8:56 UT. Exposure time for each frame was 10ms. The total imaging session for this image spanned 19 minutes after the selection process.

That is spectacular -- and also a spectacular bit of kit. Were the conditions particularly good or is the setup in a dry mountain location or something?

That's a truly stunning image and an awfully long focal length telescope to work with! I'm thinking that even getting the planet into the camera field of view has to be a challenge with that amount of focal length
