Hi Robin,

In the Capture Dark Frame drop down under Step 2 there is a check box that states: “Detect and ignore outlier pixel values in individual darks (requires 10+ frames).” I didn't see anything in the manual about this setting.

Question – If this box is checked does it have any impact on flats/dark flats capture? I'm thinking no but I'm using a ZWO 294MC Pro camera that is finicky on flats. Thanks.

Hi Dave,

no, it's purely for the generation of a master dark from the individual dark frames. The default behaviour is to just average the individual dark frames, but some cameras have intermittent hot pixels (appears in one frame now and then, but mostly not there). If you get some of those pixels in a dark frame, then they affect the average, making for a 'warm' pixel at that point in the master dark. Then that can over-correct when the dark frame is used (leaving a dark pixel in the stack).

When the option is enabled, SharpCap does a more thorough statistical check of the dark frames and throws out any outlier pixel values that are a long way from the rest of the values for the same pixel.

It's a new feature since the time that the 4.1 documentation was last updated, so not in the manual. I suspect I should update the documentation again soon, but that's usually several weeks of work...
