Banding suppression

#1

Post by GlennB »

Hi
I have tried adjusting the settings but I'm getting no closer. I never used to get banding. Using Strength 90 and threshold 45 I tried setting up as per darks and tried 5s and 120s. Starting with max threshold and increasing suppression strength. I'm finding it difficult to see much difference.
Using 12inch Meade and QHY410C camera.

I'd like to use the insert image icon but I dont seem to be able to get it to work...
I'll look at the forum part for posting images...

Hi Glenn,

the normal procedure is

* set up gain/exposure you intend to use, cover camera to effectively capture darks
* set a strong display stretch in SharpCap to show the banding (it is unlikely to be visible without a stretch and with a strong enough stretch you will see it even with the suppression turned on)
* Turn threshold up to max
* Adjust strength until you are happy with the result
* Turn down threshold until the banding comes back, then turn it up just enough to make it vanish again

You may need to turn the threshold up a bit more when capturing lights (depends on light pollution).

Note that this only really helps with horizontal bands that seem to be related (at least sometimes) to power supply voltage fluctuations to the camera (as shown here https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.1/#Banding%20Suppression).

Obviously in this sort of situation, it helps a lot to see an image - you should be able to attach image files (PNG, JPG, etc) to posts, but there is a 1Mb size limit for attachments, so you may need to cut down the image size.

cheers,

Robin
