Hi,
yes, those options sound correct. One thing I would point out is that by watching the co-ordinates (particularly RA), you can determine if the mount continues tracking after various tests, even without needing clear skies. If the RA remains constant then the mount is tracking, if it is changing then it isn't tracking.
