Hi Mike,

SharpCap can use two methods to send movement commands to the mount

1) ASCOM 'MoveAxis' commands - SharpCap will send a command to move the axis at a particular rate and then another to stop the movement. Ideally, the movement rate specified would be added to any tracking rate of the axis and then the tracking rate would resume when the MoveAxis is cancelled by sending movement rate zero. I think this might be a tricky thing to implement, since there may be limitations based on the firmware running in the mount itself, which has to run in a very small embedded CPU.

Move Axis is used for all the faster movement rates

2) ASCOM 'PulseGuide' commands - these are used for the movements at the 'Guiding rate' - usually 1x or even 0.5x sidereal. These really should be implemented as an addition to the existing tracking rate or the whole guiding concept makes no sense. These commands would give a 'slow and steady' guiding that should work OK if they don't stop tracking.

By the way, not sure if I asked this before, but does your mount have a port for ST4 guiding? If it does and you have a camera with ST4 output you could try that approach to guiding - set the mount in SharpCap to 'On Camera ST4'.

cheers,

Robin
