Version update problem

#1

Post by patryan »

I've been running Sharpcap for years on my windows 7 pro using the 32bit version.
Updates for v4 have been fine until version posted Oct. 23. All versions since then fail on setup with
an error 0x8096005 regarding certificate, and appears to be related to Microsoft visual C+++.
V4 dated Oct. 16 installed fine and is working.

I will send a log if necessary.

Hi,

that problem seems to pop up from time to time with older versions of Windows (particularly 7). Since that particular version, SharpCap will try to install the 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable' on Win7 (and maybe 8 - can't quite remember) to avoid missing DLL errors. SharpCap tries to install version 14.36.32532 if it is not installed at all, or an older version is installed. This install is failing when run as part of SharpCap's installer, but it's very likely that it will work fine if you run it yourself manually.

You can download and install the Microsoft package from these links:

32 bit version of SharpCap : https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
64 bit version of SharpCap : https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

Download the appropriate one, run it to install, then install SharpCap and you should be OK.

cheers,

Robin
