Sharpcap 4.1 Timestamp anomaly

#1

Post by Furgus »

Hi,
Thanks once again for a great capture program.

I have just noticed a snag in v4.1 though.....the Sharpcap Timestamp (the one you see superimposed on your camera image) is one frame later than the 'internal' timestamp' (SER format). (Seems ok in v4.0) I have tried two different PCs and two different cameras (ASI 174 and ASI 432) but it seems consistently to be one frame out in v4.1. This is the same whether viewing frames in SER Player or TANGRA. I'm not sure which of the two timestamps is 'correct' for a given frame, will try to determine that. Obviously this isn't ideal for occultation work! Any ideas?

Thanks

Ah, that makes sense in a way I think...

Once upon a time (for normal cameras without built in GPS timing), both would have been the 'end time' of the frame - the time that it was delivered to SharpCap from the camera software. Somewhere in 4.0 or 4.1 I changed the timestamps in the SER file to use an estimate of the start time (End time minus exposure), but it looks like I never did the same for the timestamp added into the frame image.

I will change that for the next update.

cheers,

Robin
