Uranus 585C Pro Brain Results

#1

Post by donboy »

Hi Robin,

Running the Brain on the Uranus 585C Pro comes up with an unexpected results. For Unity Gain it reports a gain of 205 and an exposure of 745.5 sec, And for Maximum Dynamic Range a gain of 250 and an exposure of 65.3sec. The slope of the noise curve provided by Player one shows a steep vertical line at a gain of 210. The transition point in the brain response doesn't follow that of Player One. Also seems strange that there is over a 10 times factor of exposure reading for the Unity Gain vs Maximum Dynamic Range.

Hi,

the factor of 10 in exposure recommendation sounds reasonable, as unity gain forces you to run the camera in LCG mode, where the read noise is ~3x higher than HCG, so the exposure will be 10x longer. Sometimes I think I ought to remove the unity gain option, as I have never been able to work out any valid reason to choose it over other gain values...

As to the curve, I suspect that the sensor analysis measurement used gain=200 and gain=250 as measurement points, so it will not know that there is a cliff edge at 210, just that there is a big drop between 200 and 250. If you look at the 'Sensor Data' graph, you will see the measurement points that were used when measuring the sensor. Current versions of SharpCap do actually try to add measurement point each side of the cliff edge drop if the camera has a LCG/HCG switch over - fortunately the PlayerOne SDK provides a way for me to ask the gain value that this occurs at. It could be that the measurement was done with an older version of SharpCap from before this code was added or that there is some issue with the way that these measurement points are added.

cheers,

Robin
