Hi

Just wondering if I can link my Takumar lens to the Altair 183c to capture in Sharpcap

♦ Altair 183c > Takumar SMC 300mm F/4 [M42]

1. Can it be done? what adapter is required?
2. What about backfocus?

thanks

Hello,

Yes you can connect any M42 objective to any camera with M42 interface.

What you need is to search the back-focus of the Takumar objective (if full format objective, it should be near 44 mm).
And then to have a look in the datasheet of your camera.

The rest is easy ... you do a subtraction.

After that you need to search one or several M42 adapter ring for the calculated distance.
You can use a little shorter ring and do the focus with the camera objective focus ring.

I can help you for the subtraction :-)

Hi,

yes, if I was going to do this I would be looking for a T thread to M42 adaptor (make sure the threads are the right way round - male for the T thread to go into the camera and female at the lens side). Also some T thread spacers of various lengths so you can build up the correct spacing. One thing I managed to buy once was a set of plastic T thread 'washers' in 0.5mm, 1mm, etc, which can be used to fine-tune the length.

cheers,

Robin
