Push to?

#1

Post by Astrofoxxy »

Hi,

I’m new to Sharpcap and never used it before.
Im using a Dobsonian without Eq platform.

I have heard someone saying that Sharpcap now has a push-to option with plate solving on loop.

I use zwo 585mc as my camera, no guiding camera or anything.
Would I find this option helpful in that case?

How does it work?

Thanks

Hi,

yes, SharpCap 4.1 has a PushTo assistant, which helps you find the target without a GOTO mount. As long as you can reliably plate solve with your camera/telescope combination then it should be helpful.

There is a brief introduction to the tool here : https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/news/whats-n ... 4-1#PushTo
More complete documentation is here : https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.1/#!2!Push-To%20Assistant

As this is currently a new feature, it is still being tweaked and improved, and feedback from people who use it is welcome.

cheers,

Robin

Do you think it would work without EQ platform at 900mm/1800mm?

My cam is 2.9px

Or would it be too slow?

Thanks

Hi,

do you know what your field of view with the camera works out to be? Plate solving starts to get slow (and sometimes unreliable) when the field of view drops below 0.5 degrees. If you are seeing a field of view of 1 degree in each direction then it should work nicely.

Hi,

there is an online field of view calculator here - https://astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/

Go to imaging mode, your camera and telescope (or a camera with the same sensor and a telescope with the same focal length) and it will work out the field of view for you.
