Camera exposure time

#1

Post by yomamma »

I was running some tests today on my camera and when I set the exposure time to say 10 it would expose to 11 seconds. When I tried setting it to 3 seconds it ran for 4. I cannot tell if the counter starts at zero or one. If one then it makes sense but I can't tell if that is the case. Could anyone verify this?

Thanks

Hi,

depending on the camera, how it is connected to the computer and the size (in pixels) of the image, the download to the computer takes some time (can be a fraction of a second, could be several seconds). I expect that what is happening is that you are getting the required exposure time and about 1s taken after each image to download the image to the computer. That means that SharpCap will count to 11 for a 10s exposure, since the actual image arrives (as far as SharpCap is concerned) once the download is complete.

cheers,

Robin

I just switched cameras to the ASI2600 and it's file size is twice the previous camera so you are correct it is the extended time to download.

Thanks
