collimation tool

The documentation for collimation says it is for Newtonians. So it won't work on an SCT, RC or refractor ?

If it is not too much trouble, can you explain why.

TIA

Hi John,

the tool really depends on the coma that affects stars on a newtonian away from the optical center of the system - by spotting the point at which the coma is at a minimum you can find the optical center relative to the camera sensor and adjust it into the middle of the sensor. Other scope types that have off-axis fuzziness may work, but, for instance, many scopes are designed to *avoid* off axis aberration, so the technique would not work for those.

cheers,

Robin
