ZWO224MC default debayer wrong?

#1

Post by cytan299 »

HI Robin,
I've used my 224MC for a few years for planetary imaging and never checked it on a terrestrial object. Recently, I checked it and I found that the "DeBayer:on" which I think defaults to RGGB, gives a red image of the tree leaves:

I checked that RGGB looks exactly like the above image.

I forced the deBayer to GBRG or GRBG gives the green leaves that I'd expect:

So, is this a bug in SharpCap or my camera is broken?

Thanks for any help.

Oops! The red result in the first image could be because I forgot to insert in an IR filter. I'll test this evening and get back to you.

Hi,

yes, the first image does look a bit like it is affected by the IR light - had that problem myself before :)

Yep, the problem is that I didn't have the UV-IR filter in my image train. Here's the photo with the UV-IR filter and the default deBayer setting:

The stupid thing was that I *had* the UVIR filter when I was doing planetary imaging, but since this is no longer planetary season, I'm using SharpCap and my asi224MC to catch an irresponsible dog walker who wasn't picking up after the dog. That's when I noticed the colour problem.

Anyway, problem solved and the dog walker as well :)

Hi,

well, that's a novel use for the software (but a good one!). Glad to hear that you got *everything* sorted :)

cheers,

Robin
