Can't see gamma slider

I have been using ASI224MC with SharpCap 4.0 9545.0 and I do not get to see the gamma slider at all. I tried switching to a cheap webcam and then I get the gamma slider. How do I resolve this?

Hi,

ZWO removed the gamma adjustment from their cameras a long time ago (several years). I've never really understood why they did it, but that's the reason there is no gamma adjustment in SharpCap for ZWO cameras.

One thing to note is that adjusting gamma doesn't really bring anything new to the image - it just adjusts the data that is already in the image. In fact, it can degrade the data slightly, since in certain brightness ranges multiple image pixel values with be transformed to the same value. You can achieve the same stretching of the image in post-processing after stacking.

If you are interested in the brightness on screen in SharpCap then you can use the display stretch functionality which only affects the image on screen.

cheers,

Robin

Oh, OK but are you sure that ZWO has removed gamma? Because "ASICap" software which is in ASI-Studio program by ZWO does have a gamma slider (for ASI224MC and also ASI178MM). I was watching a youtube video where the gamma function is used while focusing. It seemed to me that the gamma function is useful to quickly reach precise or better focus. That made me start looking for the gamma slider and I could not find it.

I just tried connecting ASI178MM to SharpCap and I did not see the gamma slider. That explains.

Thanks for the quick reply
