Change Snapshop file type from png?

#1

Post by Mstraka606 »

Is there a way to change the file type of the Snapshot function? Ideally I would like to capture a color image in color. The attached image of the sun has a very short exposure of .4mS. Snapshot is saving it as .png

Of course when I click on snapshot with RAW data I get the pixilated mono file…original screen photo attached.

How can I force snapshot to output as FIT?

The concept of a quick/dirty capture is great, I just can’t seem to get a color image as an output w/ .png

Thank you.

Hi,

you need to adjust the output format control (near the top of the control stack on the right), or set the 'preferred still image type' option in the saving settings. The latter is useful if you want to set the format for snapshots but still leave the output format as SER or AVI for video capturing.

The pixellation is expected as you have the camera running in RAW mode, so saved files are also RAW. This is a good thing as it (a) makes the files smaller and (b) allows you to debayer them using a choice of algorithm later. You can read more about debayering files here : viewtopic.php?t=254

If you just want a quick saved image to share, use the save button in the mini histogram control on the right hand side. That should save the image exactly as seen on screen into PNG format.

cheers,

Robin
