Hi Robin

I’m having trouble installing the latest version 3.0 of Sharpcap for Windows Vista SP2 on my laptop. It is an Intel Core Duo, P8700 @ 2.53 GHz, 8GB ram.

I use the laptop for purely astronomy use, successfully running Atik camera software, PHD2 and Ascom.

I have made sure that Microsoft Net Framework 4.5.2 is fully and correctly installed.

During installation, the program gives a dialogue box;

"A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file C:\Users\Alex
Lanterna\AppData\Local\Package
Cache\{16155AF1-3C8A-4D64-A684-386E678D5D68}v3.0.4076\cab1.cab has an
individual signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt”

The installation just carries on briefly before giving a fail dialogue box with the following Log file;

Hi Alex,

since build 3.0.4040, SharpCap has a digitially signed installer to let you be confident that you are getting a genuine version of SharpCap that hasn't been tampered with.

Unfortunately the modern type of digital signature used is not supported by Windows Vista.

This Microsoft article hints that applying the patch listed will help, although I haven't tested it - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... certificat. I have seen reports elsewhere that this works for the signature on the downloaded .exe package, but doesn't help with the signatures on the .msi files that are packed inside the .exe.

One option would be for you to go back to 3.0.4017 which was the last build without a digital signature. Another option that should work would be to install the latest build on a system running Windows 7 (or newer) and then copy the contents of the C:\Program Files (x86)\SharpCap 3.0 folder to the Windows Vista machine.
