Hi,
I'm not really a planetary expert, but a good starting point would be
* colour camera
* 8 bit mode
* exposure of 20 to 30ms
* turn up gain until the planet is well exposed.
* Pay a lot of attention to getting good focus.
You should be able to get better images with the 2x barlow than without (in theory), but it will be harder. Harder to make sure Mars is in view, harder to get exact focus, etc.
