Camera dropping frames when RA rotated

#1

Post by Howzat »

I have strange behaviour during Polar Alignment. Using a ZWO 120MM or an Altair 327C. All is fine until I rotate the RA through 90degrees. The both cameras start to drop frames. This occurs when using the camera specific drivers for both cameras. If I change to the ASCOM drivers it works fine. Have used different USB 2 cables and USB hubs. Never seen this before in 2 years. Puzzling. And clue to the problem?

Hi,

my first guess would be cable issues - perhaps the changed orientation causes the cables to pull slightly and gives a dubious connection.

You could try turning down the USB Speed/Turbo USB settings for each camera, which would often help reduce dropped frames (that may be how the ASCOM drivers are managing to be more reliable).

Just to check, the dropped frame count at the bottom left is going up, yes? It's not just an issue with the polar alignment failing to plate solve the frame in the new orientation is it?

cheers,

Robin
