Asi 294 mm readout

#1

Post by Johnris »

Hi, could someone explain what readout mode is and how I should set it. I’d like to use the 1 bin mode giving me 8288 by 5644. There are 2 choices ,11and 48 readout. What’s the difference? Thanks john

Hi,

the 294MM physically has tiny, 2.3 micron pixels. However the default imaging mode from this sensor effectively uses them in 2x2 binning to give 4.6 micron pixels and an 11 megapixel resolution. Actually the 294MC is the same - it has tiny 2.3 micron pixels that work in 2x2 blocks.

In the mono camera, you can switch to using the small pixels to get 47-48 megapixel resolution. Some software shows this as binning changes, ie

1x1 binning = 48 megapixels
2x2 binning = 11 megapixels, etc

However that rather messes with SharpCap's sensor analysis functionality, so I have made a read mode option instead that helps keep the sensor data for the two modes separate. Note that in 48 megapixel mode you can use 1x1 and 3x3 binning, in 11 megapixel 1x1 and 2x2 - these values actually correspond to 1x1,2x2,3x3 and 4x4 binning applied to the 2.3 micron pixels if you think about it.

cheers,

Robin

[EDITED to note that I've read through as many posts on this that I could search up]

Since this is still as clear as mud to me I'll attempt to be direct. Is the following correct for Colour Space MONO16?

Read Mode> 46 megapixel; Binning>1 = ZWO Unlocked Bin1
Read Mode> 11 megapixel; Binning>1 = ZWO Bin2
