I'm about to replace my laptop and I'm considering one with a dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX3050) rather than just the Intel Iris Xe.

The graphics card will only be beneficial for astronomy (I don't play games) and I'm wondering how much use SharpCap 4 would make of it?

Back in 2018 (before SharpCap used the GPU) Robin said "use of the GPU would be lightweight compared to gaming use and even the sort of built in GPU that Intel and AMD processors have would be sufficient". Is that still the case?

Hi,

short answer is 'yes' - a simple built in GPU is fine as long as your drivers are up to date. SharpCap makes more use of the GPU now to offload some of the work of rendering the images, but the load is only significant for high-res, high-speed imaging. Even then, SharpCap should throttle the display update rate if necessary so that even though the display may not be quite as smooth, capture still runs full steam ahead.
