Sharpcap newbie with a problem

My first post, and I look forward to increasing my (almost) zero knowledge of astrophotography! I've a Celestron 6SE here in South Africa and a Meade Classic 10" in Normandy, France. I've just acquired a Revolution Imager kit for a different view of the stars and I can see that it will be a great addition, with even my OH showing some interest!
The RI kit has a USB capture attachment and I have linked this into the system. Now after downloading Sharpcap v. 3.0, on my Windows 10 PC and accessing "camera" on the dropdown menu, there is no camera shown available, and I get a pop up screen "Error: Ascom utilities not loaded....". My download then disappears.
I'd appreciate some advice please. :?:

Hi,

the Ascom Utilities not loaded thing is a bug - thanks for reporting it. I am away at the moment and can't put a fix together, but you should be able to sto it from happening by installing the ASCOM platform from https://ascom-standards.org/ (download button top right).

The frame grabber device for the Revolution Imager should appear in the 'DirectShow Cameras' part of the list. If it doesn't then maybe you need to install some drivers for it. Some people have had trouble with the frame grabber shipped with the RI and SharpCap (if you search on these forums you will probably find some discussions about it). Unfortunately the quality of the drivers that come with these grabbers is incredibly variable and devices that look the same can have totally different hardware internally and different drivers. Many people gave up fighting with the grabber that came with the RI and changed to one of there - http://www.ezcap.tv/usb-video-capture/e ... pture-card.

cheers,

Robin

The shutdown bug is now fixed in SharpCap 3.0.4076.

Hope that you have managed to make some progress with the revolution imager drivers/grabber device.

cheers,

Robin
