Horizontal lines, ASI ZWO 183 MC

#1

Post by dude_131313 »

Hello everybody, I have bought this camere about 2 years ago as a astro newbie; now I became more experienced and challenged the problem of horizontal line. I´ve only noticed this since change to new version 4.0, but it might have occured in earlier versions too...
exposure 40 sec, gain 40, 10 darks and 50 bias frames. all (35) subs also has this horizontal lines, but not so obviousiliy.

When I am using the ASI Studio Software, none of these lines are occuring, so it will probably be a setting in sharpcap.

I ve tried the following:
- new USB 3 cable (extra shielded, not adjecent to another cable)
- direct connection to the computer (no hub)
- new drivers from ASI
- unchecked "turbo usb" setting in sharpcap
- tried differnt usb speeds in sharpcap

Hope somebody could help me.
kind regards

Hello and welcome

Could you check on the right hand side, under Preprocessing, what the settings of Banding Suppression are?
By default that value is zero. It can happen that if that it is set to a another value (in combination with the Banding Threshold) while there is no banding, banding is added.

Hi,

Menno is right - this looks very much like incorrect settings under the 'banding suppression' or 'banding threshold' preprocessing option. In particular, the banding threshold is too high, meaning that some of the brightness of the stars is being taken into consideration by the algorithm, which then dims down the rest of the line to try to compensate. If you turn down the banding threshold enough then this should go away (or you can just turn banding suppression off completely).

cheers,

Robin

Hello Robin, hello Menno,

thanks for your advise.

The bandings suppression is set to 15 and the threshold to 35 (can't remeber setting anything here... but maby i was drunk :D ).
I'll try to set to zero, record some images and let you know the results!

best regards

Klaus
