QHY174mGPS driver update/frames dropped

#1

Post by TimHaymes »

When i installed SC 4.0.8604 i got a message that driver 18-3-30 should be replaced by 21-9-9 or later. I downloaded what i thought was the updated driver: QHYCamerasDriver-V22.01.19.0 for Windows10 NewIO dot exe. I am now dropping a few frames at 20 and 10 fps. This shouldn't happen.

I looked on QHY download site, but cant see where i got this driver! What i see is one for QHY5III
20210709350 dot zip which is earlier than 21-9-9 (It is 210607 in the zip file)

Should i change the driver, will this effect SC, and what driver do others uses presently use ?

Any tips welcomed

Cheers- Tim

Hi Tim,

I think the drivers are now found inside the 'All In One' pack for QHY cameras. Have you tried tinkering with the USB speed parameter to see if that helps with dropped frames?

cheers,

Hi,

Tim, some weeks ago I got the message also. I downloaded the latest driver from this driver page:

https://www.qhyccd.com/html/prepub/driv ... es_Cameras

It was v 2021.11.19 (https://www.qhyccd.com/file/repository/ ... _NewIO.zip). I do not remember if I uninstalled the old driver first. With this driver SC runs on W7 and W10 without dropped frames up to about 10 ms exp. time.

I did not try the current driver, maybe it is buggy, however, dropped frames can come also from some other issues ...

Cheers, Christian

Hi Robin,
The USB speed is set to 1 or 0. The last three SER recordings (all recordings after the update) had less than 1% drop according to Tangra at 20 and 10 fps. I'll obtain some star field at different frame rate and check again.

Thanks to Christian for the driver file, and link to QHY. I now see the drivers can be found by browsing for the camera QHY5iii rather than go to the driver page, at least it was easier for me. After a few more tests i will install the earlier driver if the problem persists.

Thanks for the help :D

Cheers

UPDATE: I tested the camera at full frame (2x2bin) using 100, 50, 20ms without dropped frames (usb traffic=0) and 900x600 (2x2bin) at 10 and 5ms again no drops (SSD).

So the problem has not re-occurred, and I will continue with the current (most recent) camera drives.
Thanks: Tim
