Tonight I've been imaging the fast moving asteroid 7482, even though closest approach was yesterday it is still moving very fast. The new deep sky annotation is a joy to use - thanks Robin !

Hi,

what a great image - well done!

Glad that you are enjoying the annotation functionality. In the very latest builds it is possible to use the 'Pixel Position/Click to Recenter' tool while live stacking, which will let you read out the RA/Dec co-ordinates for any pixel. Not quite a readoff of angular distance, but it looks like there are tools to calculate the angular distance from two sets of co-ordinates - i.e. https://www2.keck.hawaii.edu/inst/common/offset.php

cheers,

Robin

Thaanks Robin, will give that a try when clear sky returns.

Another observation when imaging objects like this and using LiveStack is that a Maximum stack option would be an advantage in SharpCap. the image below shows some frames from the same evening stacked in Deep Sky Stacker using the Maximum brightness stack option and no further processing. This shows how bright the asteroid really was. When using SC livestack the only available option for a moving object is the Default stack and this results in the moving object becoming much dimmer than it really is since the pixels will be dark in most frames as it moves across the field.

Regards,
Mike

Hi,

I hadn't thought of that - a maximum stack should be quite easy... What other uses can it be put to?

cheers,

Robin

It is certainly interesting for asteroids and fainter comets

Robin, I was hoping you would say that was a relatively easy option to add :-)
Certainly the imaging of JWST I did the other week I was processing in DSS maximum stack in most cases. Even if you are not going to use SC for the final processed image I find that the Livestack is the best tool to locate the moving object in the frame when first acquiring it and Maximum stack would really help to set best exposure in these cases.

Thanks,
Mike
